FAQ

Frequently asked questions about renting

What we are asked most often before taking a car in Marrakech.

Another question?
Can I collect the car directly at Marrakech-Menara airport?

Yes. Enter "airport" as the pick-up location and add your flight number to the request. The car is handed over to you at Marrakech-Menara, about 15 to 20 minutes from the Medina. The return can be made at the same place, just before your departure flight.

My riad is in the Medina: where will the car be handed over?

Most of the Medina's alleys are closed or impassable to cars. The meeting point is therefore set at the car park or gate closest to your riad. Give us the riad's name or address on WhatsApp, and we will agree the exact spot together.

Which documents do I need to show at handover?

Bring your valid driving licence and an ID document, passport or identity card. The driver who signs must be the one who will take the wheel. The full list is on the Rental conditions page; if in doubt about a foreign licence, ask on WhatsApp before you travel.

What is the minimum age and how many years of licence are required?

The driver must be at least 21 years old and have held their licence for 2 years or more. If you are right on the limit on either point, mention it in your request: we check before confirming, rather than discovering the problem on the day of handover.

Is a deposit required?

Yes, a deposit is required when you pick up the vehicle. It is returned to you at the end of the rental, once the car is returned in the agreed condition. The amount is given to you on WhatsApp before the keys are handed over, so you can plan ahead.

Is it difficult to drive in Marrakech?

The traffic mostly surprises you on the first day: lots of scooters, horse-drawn carriages, pedestrians crossing everywhere and big roundabouts. The speed limit is 60 km/h in town, sometimes 40, and police checks are frequent. Drive calmly and keep your distance; you pick up the rhythm quickly.

Where can I park to visit Jemaa el-Fna square?

Several guarded car parks surround the Medina, a few minutes' walk from the square. Cars cannot get close to Jemaa el-Fna itself. Locate your car park before setting off and keep some change for the attendant; our article on parking near the Medina explains how to go about it.

Can I travel from Marrakech to other cities in Morocco?

Yes, you can drive anywhere in Morocco with the car rented in Marrakech. Simply state your itinerary when booking. Casablanca and Agadir are reached by the A7 toll motorway in about 3 hours; Ouarzazate or Merzouga take more driving time.

My flight arrives late at night: is that a problem?

No. Note your expected arrival time in your request and let us know on WhatsApp if you are delayed. Assistance answers 24/7 by phone and message, which allows us to adjust the key handover even after midnight. Keep your phone switched on when you land so we can reach you.

Is insurance included in the price?

Yes, insurance is included in the rental, whichever model you choose. The exact cover and what remains the driver's responsibility are described in the rental conditions. Read them before you go and ask your questions on WhatsApp if anything seems unclear.

Renting a car in Marrakech: how it works

Where to pick up your car

Many travellers take their car as soon as they arrive, at Marrakech-Menara airport, about 6 km from the Medina. Others prefer to receive it the next day in front of their hotel in Guéliz or Hivernage, or at the station as they step off the train. If you are staying in a riad, the handover takes place at the car park or the gate of the Medina nearest you, since most alleys are not accessible by car. Residential districts like Agdal or the Palmeraie are served too.

Choosing the right category

For getting around town and parking without a long search, small cars are more than enough. A family planning several excursions will be more comfortable in a standard car: SUV or compact, always with an automatic gearbox, with electric versions and a hybrid. For a stay in a villa or a business meeting, look at the luxury cars. Groups of 7 to 18 people will find their vehicle among the vans and minibuses. The majestic cars and imperial cars complete the range for weddings, film shoots and much-awaited arrivals.

Driving around Marrakech

Having a car changes the way you visit the region. The Agafay desert is about 45 minutes away, the Ourika valley a little over an hour, and Essaouira about 2 h 30 to 3 h by road to the west. Further on, the Tizi n'Tichka pass opens the road to Ouarzazate. In July and August, the heat often exceeds 40 °C: for long drives, it is better to leave early in the morning. In town, driving demands a little attention: many two-wheelers, busy roundabouts, a 60 km/h limit and frequent checks. Our articles on driving in Marrakech and on parking near the Medina spare you unpleasant surprises.

Booking comes down to a few lines: model, place, dates, name and phone number. The rest is settled on WhatsApp, with no online payment, and cancellation stays free up to 24 h before pick-up. All the details are gathered on the rental conditions page.
